Home August 4
Everything was still going great until we started setting up in Oklahoma City. A cable for the main slide broke when we were extending it. It got about a foot extended when it broke. We went to the office to see if there was a mobile repairman and then called the extended warranty people to find out what we needed to do. We had to wait until that night before the repairman called. He said he could not get to us until next week, and it would take a couple of weeks to get the cable. His best advice was to see if we could get the slide back in by pushing from the outside and operating the remote at the same time. He then said for us to make a beeline home to get it repaired.
We were able to get the slide back in (huge relief) that night. It made for a VERY cramped camper! We got up the next morning and traveled to West Memphis, AR, for our final night on the road. I cancelled our other reservations while we traveled. It was a long day, but we really enjoyed camping on the Mississippi River for our last night and seeing barge after barge travel the river. Hayden loved it. I am so thankful we did not have to cancel this location!
Saturday, Aug. 4, we traveled across Tennessee to our wonderful Townsend. Brice, our son, flew in for a reunion of the kids he grew up with at Sundown Resort, and Danna, John, and Karsyn traveled up to retrieve Hayden. We spent the night at the local campground where we store our camper to defrost the frig, clean, and unload everything we would need at home. We ate supper with Danna and family, went back to the condo to wash the sheets and towels, and visited with them and Brice. Danna and family woke up early and headed back to Columbia to give Hayden two weeks of summer with his friends. We took Brice out to breakfast this morning (Sunday) and then finished our work at the camper. We visited with Brice a bit before he left for the airport for California, where he will work this week and next. We will call to see when we should take the camper in to be fixed and to get the insurance adjuster to check the hail damage.
Then we will start dreaming of our fall trip to the Outer Banks and Thanksgiving with our children!
We praise God for a safe journey and a wonderful summer with our grandson. I hope the other three will want to make this trip when they are Hayden's age! I hope he has many great memories. I know we do! I the trip had ended Tues., Aug. 7, we would have been gone 10 weeks exactly. We almost made it!
Meanwhile, I'll hear Willie Nelson singing in my ear, "On the road again, I just can't wait to get on the road again....."
